Preserving Heritage Since 1884

For over 140 years, Woodlands Cemetery has served as a place of peace, remembrance, and heritage for the families of Treherne and the Rural Municipality of Norfolk-Treherne.

The first recorded burial at Woodlands Cemetery took place in 1884, making it one of the oldest and most historically significant burial grounds in south-central Manitoba. The Association formally acquired the land in 1897, establishing a lasting commitment to the stewardship of this sacred ground.

Governed by a dedicated volunteer board, the Woodlands Cemetery Association ensures the grounds are maintained with the utmost respect and dignity — honoring those who have passed while serving the living who visit to remember their loved ones.

A Community of Care

The Woodlands Cemetery Association is powered entirely by the generosity and dedication of community volunteers.

Each year, members of the community come together for our beloved spring clean-up bees and flower planting events. These gatherings reflect the deep connection between the cemetery and the Treherne community — a bond that stretches back generations.

The Association's volunteer board oversees all operations, from grounds improvements such as the installation of new gates to major capital projects like the columbarium. Every improvement is made possible through donations, bequests, and the tireless effort of community members who believe in preserving this historic site for future generations.
